TehranAvenue.com - Where do football (soccer) stars come from? From the dusty streets of Brazil or perhaps the perfect lawns of England or Germany? This male sport is finding unusual followers among athletes who will never become stars in the paved-potholed streets and back alleys of this city, athletes who may not be male after all. These are mere girls who use the patchy grass of our city parks to practice the art of kicking balls.

Two all-male First Division football clubs of Tehran (Saipa and Peykan) are today supporting an all-female teams. The two teams will take to the most important sports venue of this city in near future for a showdown. It would be interesting to see how the game will affect not only the seats of Azadi Stadium but the much molested city buses that take the rowdy fans to their game and back. Perhaps we will soon realize a world were nothing would be strictly male or female. In that world nothing would be destroyed and no hand grenades will explode beneath another’s feet. Hoping for a day when no official would take the freedom of women away based on male misconceptions.
