Venegas drew artist of the year and solo artist nods, as well as artist/Mexico, one of several regional categories.
Mexican alt-rockers Cafe Tacuba were tapped for video of the year ("Eres") and alternative artist.
The 18-category award show, hosted by Mexican popster Paulina Rubio, was broadcast live at 9 p.m. ET Thursday night from Miami Beach's Jackie Gleason Theater. It aired in the U.S. on MTV2 and in Spanish-speaking Latin America on the MTV Latin America feevee.
Spanish singer-songwriter Alejandro Sanz took pop artist kudos; Spanish band La Oreja de Van Gogh was named best group or duo. Chilean group La Ley received the rock artist nod; Capri took indie artist.
In international categories, Maroon 5 drew both the rock artist and new artist prizes; Avril Lavigne, pop artist; and Black Eyed Peas, hip-hop/R&B artist.
In the regional categories, Belinda nabbed new artist, Mexico. From Argentina, Diego Torres took the artist prize, Airbag the new artist nod.
For the central region, the best artist was TK, and the new artist winner was Cementerio Club.
