Held at the Avenue K shopping centre, the event saw four young Malaysian designers showcasing an eclectic collection. Buyers and foreign media were intrigued by the creativity shown by up-and-coming designers Atelier Aida, Dennis Yeo, Ewing and Jasmi Rejab.
The apparel included floaty feminine gowns encrusted with gemstones, sequins and beads for an exotic and ornate touch.
"It is my first collection and I am proud that I could showcase it here," Aida said after the show. "My designs translate my experiences and influences from art and people around me." The designers, all debutants, displayed a diversity of colours and design.
The designs of Jasmi Rejab, a lecturer at Limkokwing University College of Creative Technology, were a mix of modern and vintage.
"I like to express myself dramatically," he said.
Ewing's creations, by contrast, featured romantic shimmering gowns and modern lace. "My designs are a fusion of Malaysian cultures," she said. Summed up Aida: "This is what fashion is all about. You have to break the barriers to express your creativity." Designers from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Vietnam also presented their work.
The KLAFW will be held until Nov 28
